Curcuminoids are known to exert diverse pharmacol. effects and used in some pharmaceutical formulations. This study describes the preparation, characterization, and enhancement in the solubility and anticancer activity of a curcuminoids-rich extract (CRE) using a ternary inclusion complex system. CRE containing 88.9% weight/weight curcuminoids was prepared using a ‘green’ microwave extraction coupled with fractionation on a column of hydrophobic adsorbent resin. The ternary complex consisting of CRE, hydroxylpropyl-β-cyclodextrin and polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 was prepared using the solvent evaporation method and thoroughly characterized using Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffractograms, differential scanning calorimetry and SEM. The ternary complex of CRE improved the water-solubility of curcuminoids (up to 70.3μg/mL) as well as the dissolution rate when compared to those of CRE (0μg/mL). In addition, the ternary complex exhibited significantly stronger anticancer activity against human lung adenocarcinoma (A-549), human cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and human colon adenocarcinoma (HT-29) cell lines than CRE. Bisdemethoxycurcumin (cas: 33171-05-0) belongs to ethers. Volatile esters with characteristic odours are used in synthetic flavours, perfumes, and cosmetics. Certain volatile esters are used as solvents for lacquers, paints, and varnishes. Many esters have the potential for conformational isomerism, but they tend to adopt an s-cis (or Z) conformation rather than the s-trans (or E) alternative, due to a combination of hyperconjugation and dipole minimization effects. The preference for the Z conformation is influenced by the nature of the substituents and solvent, if present. Lactones with small rings are restricted to the s-trans (i.e. E) conformation due to their cyclic structure.Application In Synthesis of Bisdemethoxycurcumin

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most prevalent form of dementia, remains incurable mainly due to our failings in the search for effective pharmacol. strategies. Here, we describe the development of targeted multimodal polypeptide-based nanoconjugates as potential AD treatments. Treatment with polypeptide nanoconjugates bearing propargylamine moieties and bisdemethoxycurcumin or genistein afforded neuroprotection and displayed neurotrophic effects, as evidenced by an increase in dendritic d. of pyramidal neurons in organotypic hippocampal culture. The addnl. conjugation of the Angiopep-2 targeting moiety enhanced nanoconjugate passage through the blood-brain barrier and modulated brain distribution with nanoconjugate accumulation in neurogenic areas, including the olfactory bulb. Nanoconjugate treatment effectively reduced neurotoxic β amyloid aggregate levels and rescued impairments to olfactory memory and object recognition in APP/PS1 transgenic AD model mice. Overall, this study provides a description of a targeted multimodal polyglutamate-based nanoconjugate with neuroprotective and neurotrophic potential for AD treatment. A review. Turmeric, or Curcuma longa as it is formally named, is a multifunctional plant with numerous names. It was dubbed “the golden spice” and “Indian saffron” not only for its magnificent yellow color, but also for its culinary use. Turmeric has been utilized in traditional medicine since the dawn of mankind. Curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin, which are all curcuminoids, make up turmeric. Although there have been significant advancements in cancer treatment, cancer death and incidence rates remain high. As a result, there is an increasing interest in discovering more effective and less hazardous cancer treatments. Curcumin is being researched for its anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-metabolic syndrome, neuroprotective, and antibacterial properties. Turmeric has long been used as a home remedy for coughs, sore throats, and other respiratory problems. As a result, turmeric and its compounds have the potential to be used in modern medicine to cure a variety of diseases. In this current review, we highlighted therapeutic potential of curcumin and its multiple health benefits on various diseases. Two cationic ruthenium(II) 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane ([9]aneS3) complexes of curcumin (curcH) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (bdcurcH), namely [Ru(curc)(DMSO-S)([9]aneS3)]Cl (1) and [Ru(bdcurc)(DMSO-S)([9]aneS3)]Cl (2) were prepared from the [RuCl2(DMSO-S)([9]-aneS3)] precursor and structurally characterized, both in solution and in the solid state by x-ray crystallog. The corresponding PTA complexes [Ru(curc)(PTA)([9]aneS3)]Cl (3) and [Ru(bdcurc)(PTA)([9]aneS3)]Cl (4) were also synthesized and characterized (PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane). Bioinorganic studies relying on mass spectrometry were performed on complexes 14 to assess their interactions with the model protein lysozyme. Overall, a rather limited reactivity with lysozyme was highlighted accompanied by a modest cytotoxic potency against three representative cancer cell lines. The moderate pharmacol. activity is likely connected to the relatively high stability of these complexes. Natural extracts have been used in several traditional medicine applications and culinary purposes. Their biol. properties (antioxidant and antimicrobial) are due to the presence of several active aromatic compounds Herein, different natural extracts were evaluated, namely structural and thermal characterization and biol. activity, in its natural form and incorporated into a polymeric matrix, to assess their effective potential as additives for active food packaging. While rosemary presented the highest thermal stability with a degradation starting at 327°C, lemon balm extract was the less stable (180°C). Regarding the thiobarbituric acid assay, all extracts presented antioxidant activity, in oxidative hemolysis inhibition; anise, cinnamon, and clove extract did not present any action. Overall, the results demonstrated that leaves (rosemary and green tea) and the rhizome (curcumin) are the plant parts with the best performance. Therefore, extracts from aromatic plants are promising natural additives that can be incorporated into polymeric matrixes to produce active food packaging film, increasing products shelf-life. The colorimetric sensing label is a simple, cost-effective, and user-friendly tool for monitoring ammonia vapor (NH3) concentrations in food packaging. Numerous natural dyes present excellent NH3-sensitivity, but their low solubility in water limits their food-related applications. Herein, a special cellulose-based ink system with an EtOH/water mixture as solvent was proposed to improve the dispersion of non-aqueous dyes (curcumin and its analogs (indexed as Bur and Bur-BF2)). Subsequently, three sensing labels containing different dyes were prepared by simple screen-printing after optimizing the inks′ rheol. properties. Benefiting from the different intramol. charge-transfer (ICT) behaviors of dyes, each sensing label exhibited various characteristics in terms of the optical property, NH3-sensitivity, and fluorescent color-changing routes upon exposure to 0-50 ppm NH3. Upon exposure to the prevailing environment, leaves become increasingly colonized by fungi and bacteria located on the surface (epiphytic) or within (endophytic) the leaves. Many cool season grasses, including Achnatherum inebrians, host a seed-borne, intercellular, mutualistic Epichloe fungal endophyte, the growth of which is synchronized with the host grass. A study utilizing illumina sequencing was used to examine the epiphytic and endophytic microbial communities in Epichloe endophyte-infected and endophyte-free A. inebrians plants growing under hot dry field conditions. The presence of Epichloe endophyte increased the Shannon and decreased Simpson diversity of bacterial and fungal communities. Sphingomonas and Hymenobacter bacteria and Filobasidium and Mycosphaerella fungi were growing largely epiphytically, whereas Methylobacterium, Escherichia-Shigella, and the fungus Blumeria were mostly found within leaves with the location of colonization influenced by the Epichloe endophyte.
