Di-Ph ditelluride Ph2Te2 in aerial oxidative conditions catalyzes amidation of hydrophosphonates HP(O)(OR2)2 (R2 = Et, Me, Bu) with primary and secondary amines RR1NH (R1 = H, R = alkyl, aralkyl; R = R1 = Et, RR1NH = pyrrolidine, morpholine), giving phosphoramidates RR1NP(O)(OR2)2 with high yields in mild conditions (50°, 13 mol% of Ph2Te2). In this contribution, we describe a selective synthesis of phosphoramidates employing di-Ph ditelluride as a simple and readily available organic catalyst. To optimize the reaction conditions, a full factorial design was carried out, demonstrating that the temperature is the critical factor for the P(O)-N bonding formation. The products were obtained in moderate to excellent yields, in mild conditions. Addnl., 31P and 125Te NMR spectroscopies were used to characterize the intermediate, confirming the reaction mechanism.

Semiconductor photocatalysis can carry out selective chem. transformations under ambient conditions, mitigating the associated environmental consequences. However, a single semiconductor photocatalyst usually cannot perform the transformations satisfactorily from the aspects of light-absorption, efficiency, and selectivity, etc. To address these challenges, cadmium sulfide (CdS)/titanate hybrid was fabricated by simultaneously growing titanate and CdS and had been comprehensively characterized. The optimized CdS/titanate hybrid can power the highly selective oxidative homocoupling of amines under the irradiation of green light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Specifically, CdS with a narrow bandgap captures green light; the conduction band of titanate activates mol. oxygen (O2). The valence band of CdS could ensure the selective oxidative homocoupling of amines in methanol (CH3OH). The hybridization between CdS and titanate accounts for the expeditious oxidative homocoupling of amines into imines and the improved stability. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) quenching experiments and in situ ESR (EPR) tests suggest that superoxide anion (O·-2) and benzylamine radical are intermediates en route to imines. This work highlights the viability of hybridization of dual semiconductor nanostructures in implementing visible light-powered selective conversions.

Herein, the development of statistical models correlating measured rates to phys. organic descriptors to enable the prediction of reaction rates for untested carboxylic acid/amine pairs was reported. The key to the success of this endeavor was the development of an end-to-end data science-based work flow to select a set of coupling partners that were appropriately distributed in chem. space to facilitate statistical model development. By using a parameterization, dimensionality reduction, and clustering protocol, a training set was identified. Reaction rates for a range of carboxylic acid and primary alkyl amine couplings utilizing carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) as the coupling reagent were measured. The collected rates span five orders of magnitude, confirming that the designed training set encompasses a wide range of chem. space necessary for effective model development. Regressing these rates with high-level d. functional theory (DFT) descriptors allowed for identification of a statistical model wherein the mol. features of the carboxylic acid are primarily responsible for the observed rates. Finally, out-of-sample amide couplings are used to determine the limitations and effectiveness of the model.

Earth abundant metals are much less expensive, promising, valuable metals and could be served as catalysts for the borrowing hydrogen reaction, dehydrogenation and heterocycles synthesis, instead of noble metals. The uniformly dispersed zinc composites were designed, synthesized and carefully characterized by means of XPS, EDS, TEM and XRD. The resulting zinc composite showed good catalytic activity for the N-alkylation of amines 2-R-3-R1-4-R2-5-R3-C6HNH2 (R = H, Cl, Me; R1 = H, Cl; R2 = H, Cl, OMe; R3 = H, Me) with amines R4CH2NH2 (R4 = Ph, 2-methylphenyl, thiophen-2-yl, etc.), ketones R5C(O)CH3 (R5 = Ph, 3-bromophenyl, naphthalen-2-yl, etc.;) with alcs. R6CH2OH (R6 = Ph, 3,4-difluorophenyl, thiophen-2-yl, etc.) in water under base-free conditions, while unsaturated carbonyl compounds R5C(O)CH=CHR6 and R5C(O)(CH2)2R6 could also be synthesized by tuning the reaction conditions. Importantly, it was the first time to realize the synthesis of 2-aryl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives I (R7 = H, Cl, Me) by using this zinc composite under green conditions. Meanwhile, this zinc catalyst could be easily recovered and reused for at least five times.

The construction of two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) with robust stability for photocatalysis has gained intensive attention recently. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of a highly crystalline azine-linked porphyrinic 2D COF (Por-HZ-COF). Our results clearly show that Por-HZ-COF adopts an eclipsed AA stacking structure with a high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) sp. surface area of 1586 m2/g. In addition, Por-HZ-COF is chem. stable under various conditions, even in 12 M sodium hydroxide aqueous solution or 9 M hydrochloric acid. Moreover, Por-HZ-COF can be used for the photocatalytic aerobic oxidative coupling of benzylamines under red light irradiation with high activity and good reusability. This study demonstrates a novel robust 2D COF with azine linkage that has promising applications in photocatalysis.

A composite of metallic cobalt and silica particles that exhibits high catalytic performance for the selective synthesis of primary amines RNH2 [R = heptyl, cyclohexyl, Bn, [5-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-2-yl]methyl, etc.] via hydrogenation of nitriles RCN and reductive amination, even under mild conditions was reported. A mechanistic study revealed that the substrate nitrile and the product amine retarded the hydrogenation of secondary imine intermediates, which resulted in a selective reaction. On the basis of this knowledge, the selectivity for the primary amine was further improved by the addition of coordinating organic mols., which provided new insights into the control of selectivity toward primary amines unlike that with classical methods using ammonia.

Readily accessible tartramide ligands R1NHC(O)CH(OH)CH(OH) C(O)NHR (R = Ph, Bn, cyclohexyl, etc.)have been demonstrated to promote copper-catalyzed N-arylation under mild conditions. In addition, the coupling protocol employs cheap and readily available pre-catalyst, ligand, and base (NaOH), and overcomes many current limitations often associated with Ullmann coupling: it can be run with low catalyst loadings, does not require the use of excess amine, operates at room temperature, is fully homogeneous, and displays improved tolerance to air and moisture. Detailed kinetic studies using reaction progress kinetic anal. (RPKA) methods have provided insight into the factors influencing the reaction rate in terms of impact of ligand structure, reactant/catalyst dependence and catalyst (in)stability. These kinetic insights have been used in a quality-by-design approach for further optimization of the reaction protocol. The reaction scope was extended to 22 examples, showing broad applicability for a wide range of substituted aryl iodides ArI (Ar = 3,5-dimethylphenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 3-cyanophenyl, etc.) with both primary and secondary amines R1NHR2 (R1 = H); R2 = -(CH2)2O(CH2)2-, -(CH2)2N(CH3)(CH2)2-, -(CH2)5-, etc.

Airway remodeling is a pathol. process that accompanies many chronic lung diseases. One of the important players in this process are epithelial cells, which under the influence of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic factors present in the airway niche, actively participate in The remodeling process by increasing extracellular matrix secretion, acquiring migration properties, and overproducing pro-fibrotic transducers. Here, we investigated the effect of three new 8-arylalkylamino- and 8-alkoxy-1,3-dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-7H-purin-7-yl-N-(5-(tertbutyl)-2-hydroxyphenyl)butanamides (1, 2, and 3), representing prominent pan-phosphodiesterase (pan-PDE) inhibitors on transforming growth factor type β (TGF-β)-induced alveolar epithelial type II cells (A549 cell line) of a pro-fibrotic phenotype. Our results demonstrate for the first time the strong activity of pan-PDE inhibitors in the prevention of TGF-β-induced mesenchymal markers′ expression and A549 cells′ migration. We also showed an increased p-CREB and decreased p-Smad-2 phosphorylation in TGF-β-induced A549 cells treated with 1, 2, and 3 derivatives, thereby confirming a pan-PDE inhibitor mesenchymal phenotype reducing effect in alveolar epithelial type II cells via suppression of the canonical Smad signaling pathway. Our observations confirmed that PDE inhibitors, and especially those active against various isoforms involved in the airway remodeling, constitute an interesting group of compounds modulating the pro-fibrotic response of epithelial cells.
