The selective functionalization of arylamine derivatives with hexafluoroisopropanol through copper(II)-catalyzed aerobic oxidative coupling was developed to generate various fluoroalkylated arylamines RC(OH)(CF3)2 [R = 4-MeNHC6H4, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-6-yl, 4-Et2NC6H4, etc.] under mild conditions. This method had a wide substrate scope with excellent functional group tolerance and provided the fluorinated products in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, preliminary studies indicated that this reaction occurred via a radical mechanism. This protocol, which uses atm.
