Here, a general strategy for amination of alkyl electrophiles by merging photoredox and copper catalysis was provided. Photoredox catalysis allowed the use of alkyl redox-active esters, recently established as a superior class of alkyl electrophiles, whereas copper catalysis enabled C(sp3)-N cross-coupling. Decarboxylative amination could be used for the synthesis of a diverse set of alkyl anilines R1NHR2 [R1 = Ph, 2-MeOC6H4, 2-pyridyl, etc; R2 = CH(Me)2, n-hexyl, cyclohexyl, etc.], with high chemoselectivity and functional-group compatibility.
