The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 h. The mixture was quenched with water (30 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (30 mL*3). The combined organic layer was washed with water (10 mL) and brine (10 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified with column chromatography on silica gel (petroleum ether_EtOAc=100:1) to afford 4-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-carbonitrile (2.30 g, 83%) as red oil. GC-MS: [M]+ 255; tR=10.39 min.
